Love Bug Launch
Emily RhoadesShare
As I prepare for the Love Bug launch I thought it would be fun to have a little place where I shared some of my inspiration! I've been thinking about Love Bugs for almost 2 years now and I'm so excited to get to finally share them all with you!
This collection is special to me because it is the first launch since my big life transition from my fiance being unemployed early 2025. I feel like I'm relaunching my brand and dipping my feet back into prioritizing my little business and making art and content again!
There are a good number of basic moths in this collection. I wanted to have some available at every price point. But there are also some premium moths as well! Let's start with the basics.
Most of my inspiration from this collection came from the fabric I collected while Joan's was closing last year. I tried to pull everything that had hearts on it and make something from it. A lot of these fabrics I still have a ton of left so if there's something in this collection you really love keep an eye out for me reusing the fabric at some point! This is also the first time I used quilting cotton for some moth wings with both quilt batting and heavy weight stabilizer. I'm still not sure which I like better. I love when the wings have structure to them but are still soft and pliable. There's definitely a mixture of all textures in this collection for those of you with sensory needs.
Standard moths cost $35 and that is due to about 2.5 hours of labor involved in making the moths as well as basic supplies like simple fabrics and interfacing. There are quite a bit of more premium moths in this collection that cost even more due to the skill needed to sew different fur types as well as the expensive more premium fabrics. All Love Bugs are stuffed with Luxury Down Alternative stuffing, my favorite brand I stocked up on when Joan's was closing last year (seriously I have 2 big black trash bags full of it right now!)
There are 16 total moths in this collection! 9 of them are standard. The standard moths include:
Pink Plaid
Lilac
Love is Love
And The Bees
Chocolate Hearts
For more premium options I have 3 tiers. These moths include premium fabrics and maybe embroidery! For this collection I learned a new technique called Free Motion Embroidery and applied that to some of these creations. It gives me the ability to kind of draw with the sewing machine making really unique designs.
The first tier of premium Love Bugs are $45. This collection includes
Queen of Hearts
Gold Dipped
Velvet Vampire
Fuzzy Baby
The second tier of premium Love Bugs are $50. These feature machine embroidered designs on the wings or other accents.
Embroidered Heart
Singing In the Rain
Lacey
The third tier of premium Love Bugs are $55. This collection includes moths that use free motion embroidery
Love Pink
Love Blue
Vintage Sweet
The last Love Bug in this collection is the most special Moth I have made to date. This Love Bug took approximately 5 hours to complete. It includes a body made out of a repurposed faux fur baby cloak I found at the thrift store, free motion embroidered wings with the image of a skull, and premium one of a kind "dragon eyes". The wings are really the star of the show for this guy they turned out incredibly stunning. I have a ton of behind the scenes clips and photos of this baby over on my Instagram if you would like to see more images. Due to the skill involved in creating this piece of art as well as the labor and premium materials this baby is going to cost $150
I've never sold a moth at that price before but I have never made something this special and unique! I feel like the rest of the Love Bugs are plushies but this guy is a Piece of Art. I really hope he goes home to someone really special! Due to his colors and the skull on his wings I am calling him "Love is Dead" and he is there to represent the large number of people who feel like they can't celebrate Valentines Day due to a recent heart break or loss.
I'm really excited to share this collection with the world! I hope everyone appreciates seeing these babies and that they all find a special place to call home! Thanks so much for reading and I'll see you on the 1st of February for the launch!
